Many stereotypes contribute to a false image if Italians in the world. In America Italians are often seen as “passionate lovers”, “pasta eaters”, and “gangsters”. Sadly organized crime in Italy as played a significant part in the history of the country and was “exported” to the USA. The fast growing economy of America and new international markets helped mafia expand its influence in virtually avery continent. But mafia is a criminal organization and not a cultural characteristic of Italy or of Italians. According to the readings presented in this module what contributed to the “cristallization” of the stereotypical image of Italians as Mobsters in the US?
